I accidentally stumbled upon this article about the son of a Tennessee Democratic lawmaker who was indicted today for hacking into Sarah Palin’s email account. What would the coverage be like if a Republican lawmaker’s child was indicted for hacking into Barack Obama’s email account?

“What would the coverage be like if a Republican lawmaker’s child was indicted for hacking into Barack Obama’s email account?”
Given that the parents had likely explained the internet to them as being a “series of tubes,” there’d probably be a story on Reuters Oddly Enough about how the kid tried to dig a hole under the street near Obama’s office in order to find and infiltrate the tubes.
If the FBI can nor get a conviction on some kid,
how are they going to get international spies?
They better get a conviction.
Front page, and above the fold, of the New York Times. Drudge would headline it for 48 hours minimum. Olbermann would embark on yet another hysterical rant while simultaneously whacking off under his desk. The National Enquirer would have blamed it on aliens and/or Elvis.
Red banner headline on HuffPo, Daily Kos server crash, various NYT editorial columns discussing Obama’s civil rights being violated and accusing perpetrators of racism. Lead story on Hardball, Countdown and Rachel Maddow to discuss the shame of it and concur with HuffPo, DK and NYT.
HuffPo would then investigate perp’s friends, acquaintances, sex life and school transcripts. Finally, they would post video of perp playing a Jet in 5th-grade production of West Side Story that would seal his fate.

Anyone with a small sense of reality knows the answer. Which means JohnnyX there doesn’t qualify.
Hube – it’s called a joke, dude. Ted Stevens, series of tubes, remember? Pull the Republican bug out of your butt for fuck’s sake.
I will when you move out of your mommy’s house, X. Cripes, 27 , married and still at home. That’s being a Democrat for ‘ya, a’ight!! Livin’ off someone else’s toil!
Yeah, I suppose I should’ve taken out a loan for a $300,000 house on my whopping $13K a year graduate school salary so that when it got foreclosed upon everyone else could just bail me out. You know nothing of my life besides what I’ve told you, Hube, so quite frankly go fuck yourself.
I can see why you’re still at home, Johnny Boy. You’ve all the manners of a spoiled brat.
Just keep having mommy and daddy pay the bills, little man. Be “proud!”
I would imagine the coverage would have been like it was weeks ago, when this story first broke and it was all over the news.
Don’t read the news much, Dom?
I am not “proud” of my situation – but it is what it is, that being the only thing that’s financially feasible for me at the moment. Sorry if my natural response is not to show good “manners” when being openly mocked about it.
Anyway, back to “living off other people’s toil.” You know, what with the classes I have to teach and papers I’ve got to write. No toil in this PhD program, no sir!
Still classy Hube. My man!
Back to the question…court would be asked to try as an adult, w/ added charges of hate crime and high treason, because of the “national exposure” of perhaps senatorial sensitive material….then compassionate lethal injection given.
Joe M – All over the news? Her emails, maybe, but certainly not the investigation of the kid who did it. I’m a bit of a news junkie. I saw very little coverage of that part of the story. Of course, I don’t generally watch Fox – they may have carried it for a bit, but I know without a doubt that CNN and MSNBC barely noticed the story.
It was out there a couple of weeks ago alright. Here’s an example of the coverage it got:

Christ asshole.
This has been on the top of yahoo news for a month now. There is no hidden agenda to protect democrats. Maybe the economy falling apart is grabbing the headlines you whining witch.
Still classy Hube. My man!
Says the man in charge of the garbage-filled blog known as DL, and friend of the “man” dimwitty. Such comments from any of you (save, perhaps, LibGeek) carry absolutely NO weight whatsoever. Now see if you can find a “good” post about John McCain’s daughter not really being his or something, OK slimeball?
Johnny: Please accept my apologies if I flew off the handle. My initial response was as it was due to your complete avoidance and mocking of Dom’s topic. Then, you throw in the “F” bomb. I didn’t think that was called for at all; however, this IS Matthews’ site and I’ve certainly used my fair share of the term.
And I certainly can appreciate ‘ya working towards that higher ed. degree. So, again, my apologies.
We’re good, Hube. I wasn’t really trying to mock Dom’s topic – just making levity of the situation (what can I say, the techno remix video of Ted Stevens’ “series of tubes” rant cracks me up so much that I refer to it whenever the opportunity presents itself).
In regards to the strong language, I was just a little pissed because I felt like information that I had shared about my life for the sake of providing context was being used against me to make it look like I’m some kind of slacker. And given that I’m currently teaching courses at both UD and DelTech plus taking a course at UD and working on my own research (all the while making very little money) that kinda touched a nerve. Anyway, enough of that discussion.
Back to the original point of the thread. I’m guessing if the tables were turned that honestly MSNBC (Olbermann in particular) would be going off the deep end while Fox, Limbaugh, Hannity, etc. would be kind of gloating and snickering about it kinda like “heh, heh, he got what he deserved” (in sort of the way that the lefty networks sort of gloated about Palin getting hacked). Regardless of who it happens to, it’s illegal and they should be punished appropriately. It looks like that’s happening to the kid in this case, so good.
anonymous – why are you so willing to spread your vile hatred?
“Christ asshole.

No shit, dimwit. Your lack of a sense of humor, original thought, and common sense must be kicking your ass on a daily basis. Now, go change your panties, Mao.
This quote is what is known as raw, stinking menstral fluid: “I know without a doubt that CNN and MSNBC barely noticed the story.”
Put a sock in it Dominique.

As I’m sure MMF knows all too well — each and every month.
You skanks over here should like this one:
Yesterday, Digby wrote about the ongoing reverence for Karl Rove from our political and media establishment and, quoting a great new piece by Matt Taibbi on that topic, noted that Rove’s popularity among the media is not in spite of his flagrant contempt for law, ethics and rules, but due precisely to it:
Because this generation of Americans has become so steeped in greed and social Darwinism that it can no longer distinguish between cheating and achieving, between enterprise and crime, and can’t bring itself to criticize winners any more than it knows how to be nice to losers.

“raw, stinking menstral fluid”
You should probably see a doctor about that.
Now we know — this hacker’s crime is … Karl Rove’s fault.
Is MMF channeling the fossil known as Perry now?
