Down with Absolutes!

I initially approached the request to join Delaware Talk Radio with some hesitance. I was waiting for a full-time teaching job and had told the gang that my joining DTR was contingent upon me not getting a job this year. Lo and behold, after roaming much of New Castle County, I came up empty this year. No teaching job. So, I threw my hands in the air, said “I have nothing better to do” and “Why not? This should be interesting!” and joined the team, not knowing what to fully expect.

Well, my expectations have been far exceeded by this monumental undertaking. This DTR venture is going to be the real deal. I again made the trek to Sussex County yesterday to hang out with my new comrades Randy Nelson, Maria Evans and, yes, Dave Burris! This radio station is everything you’d come to expect from a regular radio station. Except there are comfy chairs and a big ‘ole couch! And warm tones on the walls. And a great cafe only 10 yards from the front door. This is going to be fun.

I received some training yesterday on the equipment and my concerns were soon dashed when I realized the equipment would be a cinch to operate. Now, don’t get me wrong. I fully expect the first week to be an entertaining trainwreck. Instead of pulling up the “Breaking News” sound effect, I may accidentally hit the fart sound effect. On second thought, that may not be a mistake at all. We’re going to have fun with this. I recorded two 30-second promos yesterday that I think came out quite nicely. There’s a production studio where we’ll be able to lock ourselves in and produce skits, news reports, or anything to our heart’s content.

I know this is going to work out. I hope you’re going to enjoy it. We’ve got an interesting array of live guests for next week. Monday’s guests should be quite fascinating!! Stay tuned.
