Rep. John Kowalko at Markell victory September 10, 2008

John Kowalko is a great state representative. I lightly chided him early on for his support of John Carney, believing that in choosing Carney it went against Kowalko’s uber-progressive views that often put him at odds with members of his own party. However, I knew in the back of my mind that Kowalko would come out swinging for Markell should he be the nominee. And that he did. I did not see, really, ANY of the Carney supporters from the General Assembly who made an appearance at Jack’s victory party last night. But Kowalko and his wife Connie showed up last night to congratulate Jack.

I got a few minutes with him. John talks about what he hopes to accomplish in a Markell Administration.

Hey, I love John Kowalko as my local state rep., but he should count his lucky stars Terranova came up short. I mentioned it last night but that race was very close. Anyway, it’s good to hear John sound excited.

Mike Terranova is a good man but he was in a primary for the right to challenge Sorenson for a senatorial seat and is not in my senatorial or representative district. I believe you must be referring to John MacKenzie who defeated Terranova.
Regards,
John Kowalko

Dear John,

I’d like to apologize for my incorrect statement, I will admit that while I have lived in Newark for quite sometime (between college and my post colligate ventures) It hasn’t been till recently when I’ve settled into the town on a permanent basis. I plan on focusing my attention to more Newark politics in the future (this upcoming election and beyond) and apparently a good way to do that is to pay more attention to who exactly my local representative actually is. I am still registered as part of the 21st district (since I was moving around a bit I kept financial and demographic residence at my mother’s house) and am new to being an active member 25th. I do stand by my original statement, but clearly it was supposed to be about Mr. MacKenzie (who should count his lucky stars since the primary came down to 65 votes) and not about you. Further more I should also have known the difference between a state senator and state representative, so effectively that would be the second strike against me in this case. Still, I was wrong, and to be fair and to remind me of my ignorance I would like a “John Kowalko for state senate” sign placed on my lawn (208 Haines St., it’s a white, small, single level house near the Russell parking lot) so I won’t forget about my mistake again. I see it as the least I can do since I can’t officially vote for you this time around but after visiting your website and talking to Laura, your campaign manager (who I know quite well from my previous involvements at the Newark Cinema Center) I would like to help with your re-election in anyway that I can. Again, sorry for the mix-up (I pride myself as someone who’s willing to stand by his mistakes and admit to them, unlike others who post on this site) and I hope to see you at Community day on Sunday.

John Kowalko might be a good choice. I know John, He is a hard working representative. I trust his endeavors to be honest and devoted.
